 I have one programer vp-280 .I have same problem with ver 4.20,
i can not program the chip : P89LPC9221FN　(PHILIP)Erase fail,check fail,program fail and verify return CRC FFFFFFF...

 Can you select Insertion test and Device ID test? And are both of them OK? If them are OK and you do not need ISP, you can select that Erase user mode is Including the ISP mode and Program Option is user code(0-1FFF).

 On device ID test,the programmer return "Man.Code FF" and "Dev.Code FFFF"

 I have three chips.One i program with another programmer in mode ISP and run.This one on VP-280 with power adapter contact not return manufacture ID (FF) and device ID (FFFF)

I connect power adaptor and usb cable.Later run the software and set the device,check ID device,check isertion test,select erase ISP code and select program user code (0-1fff).AND all fail.

 If check isertion test is fail, you maybe put the chip in the error position. Please note that the device into the bottom of the socket.
